I've seen it called "I Took A Plane To Ibiza", and even just "Ibiza", but regardless of how other stations bill it, Seeb's remix of Mike Posner's "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" has become the track of the moment.
Written based on a real life experience of Mike Posner, around the time he wrote "Stay with You" with Avicii in Sweden, "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" tells a tale of a trip to Ibiza with Avicii to see him play, and the events that unfolded. However the track is also a narrative about someone dealing with the soul-crushing machinery of pop stardom.
Norwegian duo Espen Berg and Simen Eriksrud, aka Seeb, brought a fresh electronic chillout flavour to the original acoustic ballad, propelling it into the chart success.
Taking Mikes distinct vocal, and riding it high in the mix, the intro is given breathing room to build, with the drums appearing around the 1 minute mark. And when the full track does opens up, the synths and rhythm begin to sound familiar. Maybe a nod to Kygo perhaps?
In a recent interview, the Norwegian duo looked back at the success of the new version describing the smash as "art by accident", commenting "Nobody knew it would become that big."
Having dominated music charts around the world, including No.1 for 4 weeks in the UK Top 40, and reaching No.5 in the Billboard Hot 100, this has certainly become a runaway success for Mike Posner and Seeb.
So, could I go as far as saying this might be the track of the summer? Well it would certainly take a seriously big tune to top it right now.
