It's no secret that I'm a bit of a fan of Nora En Pure's music, you've only got to spin through the tracks we play on Sumo Radio to realise that. And this release from the South African queen of deep house, is no exception.
Lake Arrowhead is the title track of a 3 track E.P of the same name, on Enormous Tunes, which also includes "Zambia" and "Sleeping In My Bed" featuring Sons Of Maria.
At the heart of this track is a beautifully crafted, classic piano rift, reminiscent of her previous hit "Morning Dew". But what really makes the whole track stand out for me, is the addition of the atmospheric elements. The trickling water, the bird call, all coming together with the piano rift, to really bring about a nostalgic feeling of sitting by the waters of Lake Arrowhead, watching the sun go down.
But this review isn't all about the deeper, more chilled aspects of the track. The subtle "hey" vocal signals the progression into solid percussion, and punchy deep house bass lines that Nora En Pure is known for. And yes, that's a Tuba you hear.
Producer Matt's Verdict: I just love the whole E.P, but this track really stands out for me. In the press release Enormous Tunes mentions "we skipped through the 7 demo tracks from which we picked those 3 tracks to make them an EP" - it kinda makes me wonder, what where other 4 tracks where like, as Nora En Pure is constantly getting better and better with every release. Can't wait to see what's next!
